Flexible Package Tester

A device that is used to test flexible packaging for leaks is a flexible package tester. Flexible packaging refers to packages or parts of packaging that change shape readily to accommodate contents. Some examples of flexible packaging are pouches and bags.

Why Flexible Packaging Needs Testing?

Packages containing products such as food and pharmaceutical drugs are tested to evaluate the efficiency of their seals. Intact sealing is crucial to maintain high standards of quality of the product within the package.

What Method of Testing does a Flexible Package Tester Use?

Flexible package tester uses vacuum decay principle for testing specimens. In this method, a vacuum condition is created to test the specimen for leaks. The specimen is isolated after the vacuum exposure. If the specimen returns to atmospheric pressure, then it means that there are leaks in the package.

Why is a Flexible Package Tester More Reliable?

Flexible package tester is more efficient than traditional leak testers such as those using water bath principle, for many reasons:

  • Non-Destructive Testing Method – The vacuum decay testing method used by a flexible package tester is a non-destructive testing method. This means that the tester does not change the nature of the product inside the package intended for testing, or destroy its usability. So, at the end of the testing, the product remains intact and usable.
  • Efficient Leak Detection – Even leaks that might be invisible due to the complex shape of the specimen package are easily detected with this tester.
  • No Operator Bias – Unlike manual testers, this tester is automated. Testers using water bath testing, for example, need an operator for monitoring and recording results. As the human is involved, results from these tests are more prone to errors.

A flexible package tester, on the contrary, is independent of operator influence. It analyses the package and displays results immediately on its own!

  • Presents Easily – Understandable Data for Faster and Sound Decision-Making – With testers using destructive methods of testing, it can be difficult to understand data reports. A major reason for the difficulty is the damage caused to the package or loss of product parts.

Operators find it hard to report the exact issues with the specimen and the remedial measures that can be taken to restore its quality.

With its automated non-destructive framework and its capability to deliver accurate results, a flexible package tester keeps the product ready for introduction into the production line without any loss of time, money and product quality.

SealTick offers highly efficient flexible package testers for industries where quality is crucial to ensure product marketability and saleability locally and abroad. Our flexible package testers are operator-independent and can detect holes as tiny as 10 microns in diameter in small packages, and as small as 20 microns in large packages.

Smaller and larger packages can be tested on the same machine with a simple change of chamber. An attractive trolley design is used to accommodate larger packages. The test is completely automated and the leakage rate can also be measured.

Our flexible package testers are ideal for testing a variety of products, including milk powder, salads, snack foods, biscuits, sausage skins, MAP packs, medical bandages and other medical and pharmaceutical items.
